Final Thoughts on Proverbs 3:9-10

Studying: Hebrews 1-4
Memorizing: Romans 1:1-23
Thoughts: Good

To finish off where I began two days ago with Proverbs 3:9-10, I want to ask the question, "What does it mean to honor God from my enough and my first fruits?" I've heard this verse applied many many times to tithing, and while that may indeed by a valid way to honor God through what I have, it is by no means limited to that. Face it, of only ten percent of all that I have is "given" to the Lord then I'm about 90% in error. All that I have is the Lord's, given to me only temporarily to use for a short time to glorify and enjoy him forever. Everything that I have in this world that I call "mine" must somehow assist me in fulfilling that purpose, or else I don't need to have it. This is not an argument for us to all live in cardboard boxes. Christians throughout the ages have been blessed differently by God, but whatever one is blessed with is for the purposes of the kingdom above all.

So yes, iPods, MacBooks, DVD players, houses, cars, clothes, etc, must all serve the Kingdom. If one want's to argue tithing then let's be honest. The portion that we give away is so that others may use it for the Kingdom. The portion that we keep is so that we may use it for the Kingdom. If we're not, t'would be better to give it away to one who will.
