Studying: Matthew 16-19
Thoughts: Good
"And the disciples came to the other side of the sea, but they had forgotten to bring any bread. And Jesus said to them, 'Watch out and beware of the leaven of the Pharisees and Sadducees.' They began to discuss this among themselves, saying, "He said that because we did not bring any bread." - Matthew 16:5-7
So by this point the disciples have seen Jesus miraculously feed 9000+ people with literally a few handfuls of food with such an abundance that baskets of the food were left over. And yet again, the disciples are worried about bread. It just goes to show you how easily we forget the faithfulness of God.
Now it would be easily to be critical of the disciples here, but I'll be the first to admit that I'm guilty of the same thing myself. Oh how many times I've seen and personally experienced the faithfulness of God over and over again, only to find myself worrying at the first inconvenient circumstance. In my life I've seen God provide out of seemingly nothing. I've seen him heal, bring about change, right wrongs, etc. yet I'm so quick to forget these things when something new comes up.
Christ later in this passage rebukes his disciples, but I must say even then it is firm but gentle. He reminds them of what they have seen him do before, and that is really the essence of keeping our faith strong. If we would be strong in our faith we need to remember who God is and what he has done.
