Thoughts Good
She is a tree of life to those who take hold of her, and happy are all who hold her fast. - Proverbs 3:18, NASB
I would have to agree with John Piper when he says that all men are, in reality, hedonists. Everyone wants to be happy, there's no doubt about that. The one who pouts and moans about does it because at that particular moment that's what he wants to do. That's what satisfies him.
Happiness is not about always having a smile on one's face. Right now while I'm writing this post, my eyes are burning because I'm tired, I've got a busy week ahead of me and a lot of things on my plate. But I'm very happy right now. If you were to look at me you wouldn't know it. But truth be told, my life is about pursuing happiness, and at any given moment I'm either finding that happiness (that satisfaction and joy) in God or in my own sinful indulgences.
Now, I didn't mean to get off on a Piper sermon, but the context fits. One of the fruits of wisdom is a life and happiness (I'm intentionally grouping these together as one because I think in the context they can't be separated). The one who lives according to wisdom will have a happy life in general. Again, we could go back to things said earlier. Does this mean that no one will die, get sick, that there will always be a new car in the garage and steaks on the grill? No. But you will find happiness, lasting happiness in God.
