Studying: Matthew 25-26
Thoughts: Good
"As they were eating, He said, 'Truly I say to you that one of you will betray Me.' Being deeply grieved, they each one began to say to Him 'Surely not I, Lord?" Matthew 26:21-22
The context is the Last Passover supper before Jesus is betrayed and crucified. Here Jesus makes this statement and the disciples are apparently a little shocked, dismayed and perhaps even scared. Here it says "Surely not I" while some other translations read "Is it I, Lord?" It is an expression of doubt and fear even as each of the disciples sits around and wonders if perhaps they are the one who is going to do such a deed. It's telling in the midst of this that no one points the finger at Judas and says "Him!" Apostasy is not always obvious.
