And Jesus came up and spoke to them, saying, "All authority has been given to Me in heaven and on earth. - Matthew 28:18

On no few occasions I've heard the "Great Commission" (verses 19-20) quoted without verse 18, but this verse is crucial to the whole meaning of the command that follows. On what basis are we to "go therefore?" On the basis that Christ has been given all authority in heaven and on earth. We therefore can go with confidence. We cannot set our feet on any soil over which does not have rule and dominion. Though we may leave our earthly country of residence to do this task, we never leave our King's territory.
